Verify Student Loan Information

There are two places where you need to check the accuracy of your student loan history:  Since your account is ultimately managed by your servicer, first check with them about the accuracy of your record.  However, the final word on your student loan record is the NSLDS, so verify the information here as well.

The NSLDS is a clearinghouse that records all of your Title IV federal student loan information, as well as your enrollment and graduation status, and it’s what your servicer uses to check on your repayment status.  Every individual with a Title IV federal student loan can log on to the NSLDS and check their information for accuracy.

• Get a Department of Education pin at the pin Web site.
• Go to the NSLDS Web site and log on.
• Check two pieces of information:  the loan amounts you received and the date when you left your program.
• If there are any discrepancies in your record, contact your servicer.  Whom you should contact depends on the types of loans you have.
